A cleanliness drive was held at Zadibal in old city where a grand Ashura procession was taken out on Wednesday.
Mir Behri Welfare Society (MWS) president Firdous Ahmad said the cleanliness drive was held to pay a humble tribute to Imam Hussain and other martyrs of the Battle of Karbala to create a trend of “self-service and humility among the people about the need of sanitation and cleanliness”.
He said on the day of Ashura (10th day of Muharram), a large number of people participated in the procession after which piles of waste products lied unattended on the roadsides.
He added that a large number of students took part in the cleanliness drive. The MWS president said they would be holding the drive regularly from next year onwards on the day of Ashura.
