Education
NAGPUR: Recently, people of Nagpur were horrified when a retired NEERI scientist, Maqsood Ansari, who was repeatedly raping his three adopted daughters (aged around 16, 10 and 6, respectively), was arrested by the city cops under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. In most of these cases, the victims usually land in an orphanage and fade away, leading lives filled with indifference and apathy.
But, a social activist and city cops have joined hands to ensure that the girls get proper education and finally find a way forward in life…
I had tears in my eyes
All the three girls rescued from the clutches of a pervert father are currently staying in a government run rescue home, shares DCP, Zone I, Deepali Masirkar, who has played a proactive role in rescuing the girls. “Social activist Aniruddha Patil first approached me with the girls’ dilemma. When I spoke to them, I had tears in my eyes. Now, we all have to ensure they get good education. Soon the formalities will be completed and an account will be setup solely in the girls’ name at a nationalised bank. I am also contributing whatever little that I can, along with some of the people known to me. I appeal to all the good Samaritans to come forward to support these girls in becoming self-reliant.”
One of the girls had taken a break
All the three girls are studying in a well-known school of Nagpur, shares Aniruddha Patil and adds: “We have arranged for a special vehicle for the girls to go to school from the rescue home. The teachers in the school are very caring and the efforts are on to normalise their lives as far possible and make them forget the trauma that they were undergoing for so many years.” Deepali goes on to add: “The youngest one is too small and middle girl was in a state of complete shock, so she didn’t want to go to school and told me ‘I need some time.’ So she stayed back at the rescue home for a while. They all need counselling to come to terms with life again.”

‘I Want to be a doctor or engineer’
The eldest girl, who is appearing for Xth Board examinations, is very good in studies, informs Aniruddh and adds, “She has faced most of the atrocities of the pervert father, who wanted to marry her. He would force himself on her, threatening to rape her sisters if she resisted. He would also threaten to chop off her hair to have sex with her. But despite suffering such brutality, the girl has a fighting spirit. She told me that she wants to become a doctor or engineer and become self-reliant, so that she doesn’t have to bear repression and brutal force from anyone ever again.”
