Traditional Bhojpure khukuris regain market in Dashain

BHOJPUR: Traditional Bhojpure khukuri makers have been elated with a surge in demand of the weapons during the festive season.

Khukuris from the district are considered iconic and popular across the nation. Those visiting the district take it as a souvenir.

One of the khukuri traders, Hira Shrestha, expressed satisfaction for increasing demands of the khukuris compared to previous years.

Another entrepreneur Ganesh BK echoed Shrestha, adding that the government should facilitate preservation and commercialisation of the traditional item.

Meanwhile, as many as six shops are in operation selling the traditional sharp weapons in the Bhojpur district headquarters.

Currently, the khukuris produced in the district have been categorised as "Sirupate", "Chitlange" and "Kothimoda."

Of them, the Sirupate is the most demanded.

They are sent to various markets of the nation including Dhankuta, Dharan and Biratnagar.
