Barcelona want new deals for Suarez, Rakitic, Ter Stegen, Iniesta - reports

Barcelona want to extend the contracts of Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic and Marc-Andre ter Stegen by the end of the year before offering Andres Iniesta a deal for life, according to reports in the local media on Thursday.

The Catalan club have been working hard to tie down the key members of Luis Enrique's first-team squad, with Sergio Busquets, Javier Mascherano and Neymar having all agreed new terms earlier this year.

That means Barca can now focus on securing the futures of Suarez, Rakitic and ter Stegen, all of whom see their current deals expire in 2019.

Mundo Deportivo reports that they are all in advanced negotiations over five-year contracts, which would commit them to the Camp Nou until 2022.

Suarez is expected to be the first to sign. His agent, Pep Guardiola's brother Pere, met with the club in September to thrash out a deal which would see the 29-year-old earn €16 million per season, bringing him in line with Neymar.

Suarez, who joined from Livepool in 2014 for €80m, has proved hugely successful in Catalonia, scoring 92 goals in 106 appearances. For that reason, the club feel his current terms should be reviewed to bring his salary in line with his importance to the team.

Ter Stegen and Rakitic could then follow suit. Like Suarez, both players joined the club two years ago, from Borussia Monchengladbach and Sevilla respectively, and president Josep Maria Bartomeu has already confirmed the club are mulling over new deals for the duo.

Claudio Bravo's summer departure to Manchester City has seen ter Stegen's hand strengthened at Barca. He's currently Luis Enrique's first-choice goalkeeper, while midfielder Rakitic is also a regular in the side.

The focus on those three has meant talks regarding new deals for Iniesta and Lionel Messi have been put on the backburner for now -- even though the two La Masia graduates are out of contract in 2018.

However, Sport reports that Iniesta has not been forgotten and will be offered a deal of his choosing next year.

The paper says the midfielder will have a place in the squad for as long as he sees fit and he will also have the chance to take up an off-the-field role once he retires.

Iniesta, 32, has previously said he does not see himself as a manager, but the jobs reportedly on the table will be as a club representative, like Emilio Butragueno at Real Madrid, a youth coach or an assistant with the first team.

That would leave Messi, who Bartomeu revealed last month in an interview with ESPN FC also has a contract for life on the table.

"He has all the years he wants [with Barcelona]," he said. "Lionel Messi is the best ever to play football in the history of the world and he plays with us.

"In the next coming months of course we are going to talk with him because he knows, he already knows that he has a contract forever. There is not a limit with him. The limit will be decided by him and right now he is 29 years old, he is talented, he is ambitious, and he's in perfect shape to continue for many more years."
