GM’s Ford EcoSport Rival In China — Should India Get One?
General Motors in China is known as Baojun brand with the collaboration as SAIC-GM-Wuling. They have released photos of its new compact SUV, the Baojun 510 which will rival the Ford EcoSport in following months.
In dimensions, the Baojun 510 measures 4,220mm in length, 1,740mm in width, 1,605mm in height and wheelbase of 2,550mm. When compared to the Ford EcoSport, the Baojun 510 is 60mm shorter in length, 45mm shorter in width, 53mm lower in height, and 20mm shorter in wheelbase.
In short, the Baojun 510 is comparatively shorter than its competitor, the Ford EcoSport.
The company has not revealed the specifications of the Baojun 510; however, as per reports the compact SUV will be available with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four cylinder engine.
The engine will produce 110bhp and 147Nm of torque which is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox, though the images reveal a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Apart from the 1.5-litre engine, the company will offer a 1.0- and 1.2-litre turbocharged engines as well. The details of the two engines are yet to be revealed though.
In India, Ford offers the EcoSport in the choice of 1.5-and 1.0-litre petrol engines and the diesel unit in 1.5-litre guise. While the 1.5-litre petrol unit churns out 110bhp, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine develops 123bhp.
The diesel 1.5-litre engine produces 99bhp. The 1.0-litre petrol and the 1.5-litre diesel mills are paired with the 5-speed manual gearbox, while the top of the line 1.5-litre comes with an option of 5-speed automatic gearbox in India.
When the Baojun 510 goes on sale in China, it is expected to bepriced in the range of Rs 9.50 lakh to Rs 12.71 lakh. Should GM bring a similar vehicle to India to take on the compact SUV market in the country? Let us know.
