A close aide of People’s Conference leader Sajjad Lone was shot by unidentified gunmen at Handwara in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Two militants barged into the house of 50-year old Ghulam Nabi Koja around 8.30pm and ordered him out. He was later rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to injuries.
“He had multiple bullet injuries and died minutes after he arrived,” Dr Masood, the hospital superintendent, said.
The shooting comes on the same day when Lone visited Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss the prevailign situation in the Valley.
Khoja was a close associate of Sajjad Lone. An employee of the education department, he was associated with the People’s Conference since the days of Abdul Gani Lone, Sajjad’s father who was assassinated in 2002.
