Csonka’s Lucha Underground Review 10.12.16 (Season Three, Episode 6)

OFFICIAL RESULTS
– Dr. Wagner Jr. and Famous B defeated Son of Havoc and Mascarita Sagrada @ 5:25 via pin [**½]
– Gift of the Gods Title Match: Champion Sexy Star defeated Jack Evans @ 9:17 via pin [**¾]
– Pentagon Dark defeated Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero @ 8:50 via pin [***¼]

– We get the usual slick opening video package.

– Dragon Azteca Jr suits up in the back, promising to fight with honor. Chavo then attacks him, because he’s a dick and beats him down with a chair so that he can’t get to Pentagon Dark first. Rey Mysterio Jr arrives and finds his young friend beaten. Rey then dramatically yells out, “CHAAVOOOOOOO!” ala Kirk yelling out Khan in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan.

Dr. Wagner Jr. and Famous B vs. Son of Havoc and Mascarita Sagrada: Son of Havoc rode into the Temple on his motorcycle with Sagrada in his sidecar. Son of Havoc and Mascarita Sagrada hit dives to begin; Famous B is wrestling in his suit. Sagrada hit a RANA on Famous B, as Havoc and Wagner paired off. Havoc was in control and got a roll up for 2. Wagner cut him off, but Sagrada tagged in and hit the high cross and head scissors. Wagner then kicked his head off, and hit the sitout powerbomb but only got 2. Famous B tagged in and continued the heat on Sagrada, and then he and Wagner worked double teams. Wagner hit the brainbuster, but he took too long to follow up and Havoc got the hot tag and ran wild. The back handspring elbow connected, and then Famous B made the save. Havoc beat on him and sent Wagner to the floor, tag to Sagrada and he hit a high cross and slam. Wagner took out Havoc and then hit the Wagner driver on Sagrada. Famous B tagged back in and made the cover for the win. Dr. Wagner Jr. and Famous B defeated Son of Havoc and Mascarita Sagrada @ 5:25 via pin [**½] That was way more entertaining than I thought it would be, not great by any means, but fun. Famous B is a dick and the fans made sure to let him know about it.

– Next week, Dario’s Dial of Doom returns and The Monster Matanza Cueto will defend his title. Also, Prince Puma faces Mil Muertes.

– Evans grabs the mic and says that he is a fair man, and says that this will be the last match of Star’s career. He will leave her bloody and beaten, and he will be known as the Star destroyer. Star slapped him and here we go.

Gift of the Gods Title Match: Champion Sexy Star vs. Jack Evans: Evans wanted a break, but Star attacked. Evans scored with a dropkick and then celebrated. Star fought back, they did a few passes and Star hit an arm drag off the ropes and then sent Evans to the floor. Star hit the seated senton off the apron and then dragged Evans around the floor by his hair and tossed Evans around. Back in, Star charged and got slammed to the corner, and Evans took over. Evans worked a camel clutch and mocked Star a bit. She would escape and hit the RANA and a big boot, which got 2. Star then worked strikes, but Evans quickly slammed her to the mat. Knee strikes followed, and then Evans grinded her face in the corner. Evans then raked the eyes, Star fought back and then eye poked Evans and then hit broncobusters on the corner. Chops followed, Gory special into a sitdown, which got the cover for 2. Star then ran into the big boot, Evans up top and hit a blockbuster for a near fall. Evans back up top, Star cut him off and shoved him to the floor. She then hit the high cross to the floor onto Evans. PJ Black then arrived for a distraction as Mundo speared Star on the floor and rolled her back in and he hid under the ring. Evans covered, but Star survived Mundo is not pleased and distracts the ref as Black tried to give Evans a kendo stick, but Aerostar and Drago make the save. Evans gets a roll up and had the ropes, Fenix arrives, Star gets the kendo stick and low blows Evans. Spinning neck breaker follows and Star wins. Champion Sexy Star defeated Jack Evans @ 9:17 via pin [**¾] Even with all of the extra curriculars, that was a pretty good match as it played off of the previously established alliances and issues between all of the participants, and the faces finally overcame and got payback from the loss in the atomicos match. I don’t want it all the time, but it worked here and the faces overcame to allow Star to retain.

– Dario is in his office with Chavo, and Dragon Azteca Jr is in the hospital. Rey interrupts and says that Chavo will not face Pentagon tonight, because he will face “this piece of shit” in the main event. Chavo tried to attack but failed and Rey kung fu’d his ass. Dario loves the tension and says that they will face Pentagon in a three-way match. If all goes well, someone will join Dragon Azteca in the ER tonight.

– Prior to the main event, Dario arrives in the temple and announces that the three-way to the Temple crowd.

Pentagon Dark vs. Rey Mysterio vs. Chavo Guerrero: They went at it right away, with Rey getting in the early offense before eating a superkick from Pentagon. Chavo got tossed, allowing Rey to take Pentagon to the floor. Rey then followed with the dive onto both. Back in, Rey hit the seated senton and cross body onto Pentagon, which got a near fall. Chavo grabbed a chair, pulled Rey to the floor and hit the bog boot. Pentagon then dropkicked the chair into his face and worked over Chavo on the floor with booming chops and kicks. He then worked over Rey with kicks, and they battled back into the ring. Rey held onto the ropes as Pentagon paid in kicks and Rey did the Curt Hennig flip sell. Pentagon then grabbed the chair and wedged it in the corner. Chavo returned and he and Rey accidentally worked together to send Pentagon into the chair. Chavo attacked both men, the funny thing here is that Pentagon is so over that they were cheering him destroying Rey. Chavo took control and the heat for this died, his stuff was fine but he is the third wheel here. Pentagon dropkicked Rey to the floor, but Chavo hit a dropkick and running senton for a near fall on Pentagon. Pentagon fought back, hit the lung blower and got a near fall as he yelled at the ref. Chavo then hit the amigos as the fans chanted for Eddie. Rey retuned and sent Chavo to the floor, but Pentagon powerbombed him for the near fall. Rey hit a 619 on Chavo, sending him back to the floor and then headed up top and Chavo cut him off. Pentagon sent Chavo to the floor and then hit the package piledriver out of the corner and picked up the win. Pentagon Dark defeated Rey Mysterio and Chavo Guerrero @ 8:50 via pin [***¼] This was an overall good main event match, with Pentagon and Rey working very well together once again. Chavo just feels really out of place, he’s “fine,” but he crowd obviously cared less any time he was in control. Also, I have no desire to see he and Rey feud. The interactions tonight made sense, but the show felt as if it ended on a down note with Chavo playing bad ass as the show closed.

– Post match Rey escaped the arm breaking from Pentagon, but Chavo attacked him and jacked him with the chair in the face. Chavo looked to attack the knee with the chair and did as Pentagon watched on. Chavo then placed Rey in the tree of WHOA and then took out the ref with the chair. He then bashed the knee of Rey with the chair.
