Director and actor Samuthirakani’s pet project Appa in Tamil will be soon remade into Malayalam.
This will mark his directorial debut in Mollywood and actor Jayaram will be playing the role essayed by Samuthirakani in the original.
On his Mollywood venture, Samuthirakani says, “The story, which is about the role of a dad in a child’s life, has a universal appeal and I would like to make it in as many languages as possible.
When I contacted Jayaram he was very excited and readily agreed to do the role. Asha Sarath will be playing the role of Jayaram’s wife in the movie.”
Talks are on to finalise the casting for the other roles and Samuthirakani says that he is hopeful that actor Thambi Ramaiah will be part of the film and will reprise his role in Malayalam too. “However, it’s too early to confirm his presence as he is busy with other projects,” he adds.
And Jayaram apparently has always wished to do a role like this! The actor says, “I have even spoken to a writer about the possibility of a script, emphasising the significance of father in a child’s formative years. When Samuthirakani spoke to me, I just grabbed the role. I never imagined my wish will come true this fast.”
He adds, “I was moved after watching Appa. It may be the mother who plays the most prominent part in a child’s growth but the movie throws light on how the presence of a father can make a difference in a child’s life.”
Jayaram also says that he shares a great rapport with the actor-director from Tamil as they have worked together earlier in the Malayalam movie Thiruvambadi Thampan.
The crew is yet to finalise the locations for the shoot. Samuthirakani says that the film will go on floors by next month. Music maestro Ilayaraja will be composing music for the Malayalam remake too.
