Parmeshwar Godrej death: Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Karan Johar, A R Rahman pay tribute to Adi Godrej’s wife and philanthropist

Mumbai, October 12: Mumbai and industry circles of India and abroad were shocked to hear the news of the passing away of Parmeshwar Godrej on October 10, 2016, at Breach Candy Hospital in the city. The 70-year-old was suffering from a degenerative lung ailment. Married to Godrej group Chairman Adi Godrej, Parmeshwar Godrej as a style icon, with her most popular accessory being her beret. Parmeshwar Godrej was not just involved in the work for her husband’s companies, but also known for philanthropy and her work in the area of awareness about the Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) in association with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Pakistani cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan was the first to tweet about Parmeshwar Godrej’s death, remembering her as a close friend and confidante. Through the day, Bollywood celebs like Ashvini Yardi, Shah Rukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Anil Kapoor, Shekhar Kapur, Karan Johar, Arjun Rampal, Farhan Akhtar, Anupam Kher and Shabana Azmi, AR Rahman, Sameera Reddy, Vivek Oberoi and Kabir Bedi, among others, tweeted condolences.

Superstar Shah Rukh Khan said on Twitter, “Not how she looked, not wot she said but just by being wot she was, my most beautiful friend Parmesh,I will miss ur kisses & ur light. RIP”. Quantico actress Priyanka Chopra tweeted, “A woman with solid strength integrity and grace..I cannot believe you are not with us any more Parmeshwar Godrej..Condolences to the family.” Oscar Award-winning music composer AR Rahman tweeted, “All of us will miss you Parmeshwarji..:(“, while renowned actor-producer Anil Kapoor said, “Mumbai lost a philanthropist, visionary & a great lady..Rest in peace #ParmeshwarGodrej. Your city & people will miss you…”. Actor-filmmaker Shekhar Kapur remembered his friendship with Parmeshwar Godrej. He said, “Few friends would go to the ends of the earth for you in times of need #ParmeshwarGodrej was one of them. RIP. Cherished friendships”. Ae Dil Hai Mushkil director Karan Johar tweeted, “She is LIFE..will never put a “was” with her name..her energy is infectious..her heart is solid and her aura is forever..I love you Parmesh.”

Actress Shabana Azmi said, “Deeply saddened to learn lovely beautiful Parmeshwar Godrej passed away last night at Breach Candy.She was truly special. RIP”. She added, “Parmeshwar Godrej was more than the sum of her parts.She was warm generous n almost childlike under that starry sharp businesswoman exterior.” Actor Arjun Rampal tweeted, “Devastated to hear that Parmeshwar Godrej left us.Just can’t believe it. This is very sad. Too soon for such a beautiful soul. Will miss you”. Grazing Goat Pictures’ Ashvini Yardi was the first Bollywood celeb to tweet condolences to Parmeshwar Godrej.
