Ararat Yerevan and Spartak Moscow congratulate Nikita Simonyan

FC Ararat Yerevan (Armenia), and FC Spartak Moscow (Russia) have congratulated Nikita Simonyan, the former Soviet football star and coach of Armenian descent, on his 90th birthday.

“We congratulate the legendary coach on his [birth] anniversary, wish [him] good health and a long life,” the respective Ararat statement reads, in particular.

The congratulatory message by Spartak Moscow pointed especially to Simonyan’s exceptional achievement of scoring 160 goals for this Russian club. This accomplishment remains unsurpassed to this day.

From 1977 to 1979, Nikita Simonyan was also manager of the USSR national squad. Between 1990 and 1992, he chaired the USSR Football Federation.

And ever since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Nikita Simonyan is vice-president of the Russian Football Union.
