Man assaults 4 in Khandola temple

After being denied from performing the sacred ‘taranga’ during the Dushera celebration, a man turned violent, leading to an attempt to damage the taranga and deity's idol and assaulting four persons with a ceremonial sword at Shree Mallikarjun Devasthan, Tamsuli, in Betqui, Khandola, during preparation for the Dushera celebration on Tuesday.

Ponda: After being denied from performing the sacred ‘taranga’ during the Dushera celebration, a man turned violent, leading to an attempt to damage the taranga and deity's idol and assaulting four persons with a ceremonial sword at Shree Mallikarjun Devasthan, Tamsuli, in Betqui, Khandola, during preparation for the Dushera celebration on Tuesday.

Following the incident, Ponda police arrested Gurudas Yeshwant Gaude and his brother Gokuldas for endangering human life and attempting to insult religious sentiments.
In the scuffle, four villagers, Surya Jalmi, 65, Pratap Haldanker, 50, Ridhesh Sukhthanker, 39, and Padmanabh Khandolkar were injured. They were discharged from a health centre after administering medical aid.
