The 8th BRICS summit in Goa, that is to be held between October 12-14 is facing terror threats. According to India Today, intelligence units have warned that terror groups from across the border have plans to carry out attacks in Goa as a retaliation for the surgical strikes carried out across the LoC by Indian troops. The BRICS and the BIMSTEC summit is to attend by the heads of 11 countries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Pakistan’s vocal supporter China’s President, Xi Jinping.
Earlier today, National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval conducted a meeting with the senior Navy, Coast Guard officials and other agencies to review the security arrangements in the state. The latest intelligence inputs were and discussed and analysed with details during the meeting. It was reported by various sources that multi-level security arrangements for ground, air and even underwater, have been put in place.
Marcos commandos are to secure the key locations like the Goa Airport. Certain intercepts between terrorists and handlers across the borders have led the Ministry of Home Affairs to be on high alert. The K9 teams of the Indo-Tibetian Border Police force have been asked by the MHA to secure the venues and the hotels that room the BRICS leaders. The ITBP received an SOS call from the state government of Goa last week and was directed by the MHA Internal Security wing to immediately bring in the K9 units to Goa as a necessary precaution.
