Baghpat official attack: 6th contract killer held
Ghaziabad: The key conspirator of a gang involved in an attempt to kill Baghpat district’s Ramala Block president Suresh Pal several weeks ago was arrested in Sector 4-C, Vasundhara, on Tuesday.
The arrested man was identified as Akshay, the sixth member of the gang to be arrested for involvement in car theft, snatching, contract killing and the conspiracy to kill Pal. Pal had managed to escape unscathed in the attack on him in Baghpat.
Five other members of the gang were arrested on October 7.
A case under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the IPC was registered against him at the Ramala police station.
The presence of the assailant was confirmed by a source following which he was nabbed at Mewar Institute in Sector 4-C, Vasundhara.
“The accused was in the city to commit another robbery,” said a police officer at the Indirapuram police station.
A country-made pistol and live cartridges were seized from his possession. “During interrogation it was came to light that the accused was planning another attack against the Ramala Block president,” the officer said. While on the run, Akhsay was also trying to seek shelter in the residence of an accomplice (now under arrest) in Sector 8, who was a cement vendor who had helped the gang members hide weapons.
The accused was allegedly directed by the block president’s political opponent, who had allegedly paid lakhs of rupees to execute the murder. All the gang members, the block president and his opponent, belong to Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh.
