Teacher finds errors in answer scripts, writes to Sisodia
Delhi deputy CM Manish Sisodia
NEW DELHI: A government school teacher went through corrected answer scripts of the recently-conducted Summative Assessment I exams in her school and found ‘errors’ in spades. The senior teacher of the primary section of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya, Dallupura, also found that in some cases, “the teachers didn’t even correct the papers themselves.”
She reported the mistakes—they smack of negligence rather than plain human error—to the authorities and four teachers had “memos” or warnings issued to them.
The senior teacher also wrote to the education minister, Manish Sisodia, who confirmed having received the complaint and said he’ll “study the case” and if the allegations are found to be correct, he will “take strong action”.
“In one case, marks were given without the teacher having even read the answers. In some cases, papers have been checked by others—and not the teacher who was supposed to—because the handwriting is clearly different. There are totalling mistakes in 10-15 copies of every bundle of 40-45 we rechecked,” said the teacher. She added that the maximum errors were in answers scripts of Classes II, III and V.
Answer scripts, she found, lacked the details that kids are generally required to fill such as subject, teachers’ name and identity number. The problem, she said, extended to the way exams are conducted too. She alleged that “invigilators sit in groups, gossip and eat” in front of the kids during the exam. SKV Dallupura has over 250 kids in the primary section which has classes from nursery to Class V. After a complaint to the district authorities and the local MLA, they had come to the schools but, apparently, were let off with “memos.” “The school administration took letters of apology from them and handed them memos which are basically warnings,” she said.
