SHAHJAHANPUR: A village pradhan was shot dead allegedly by his rivals at Bhorkheda Jigania village in Banda on Tuesday afternoon. Family members of the victim and neighbours reportedly witnessed the entire incident.
According to sources, Devnarayan Gangwar was elected village head for the third consecutive term in 2015. Another candidate who had lost the elections, Anirudh Gangwar, visited Devnarayan’s house with a group of men and shot him thrice.
The accused, along with the others, soon ran away from the spot. Anirudh’s house was raided by neighbours soon after but it was locked. The villagers also decided to burn it.
Police were soon informed and the situation was brought under control. Additional force were also deployed in the area to avoid any unprecedented event.
The body was later sent for post-mortem and an FIR has been registered against Anirudh, Ashok, Abhimanyu, Bheemsen, Lalta Prasad and Rajeev Gangwar. Cops managed to nab one of the accused.
Superintendent of police (SP), rural, RK Bhartiya said, “The murder was the result of an election rivalry. We have registered an FIR against six persons according to the complaint registered by Devnarayan’s family members. We have deployed extra force in the village to ensure peace in the area.”
