Blame it on the celebrity culture, models as the new wave of role models, or our obsession with social media. But like it or not, ours is a generation that subscribes to impossible standards of beauty. A world where #thighgap trends on Instagram, and ‘I woke up like this' is the reality we want to live in.

Designer Monisha Jaising, who is best known for her laidback luxe aesthetic, wants women today to be happily accepting of what greets them in the mirror. “We are all big girls in a skinny world battling standards of beauty that are rather difficult for real women to achieve. It's time we stop obsessing over size. Fashion is freedom, and it belongs to everyone,” she says.

The designer is using the tote bag she has exclusively designed as a part of Vogue India's Fashion's Night In merchandise (executed by Cord) to drive the point home. This bag, which is equal parts cool and symbolic, features a quirky print of women in ikat print bikinis to epitomize wild and carefree women who embrace and love their bodies. Jaising has been particularly inspired by the acceptance of plus-size models on fashion runways—be it model Ashley Graham or designer Christian Siriano who is championing this change.

“I believe every woman is sexy, and shouldn't be defined by the number on her outfit's label. Every body type is beautiful, and everyone is beach-body ready. We want to encourage women to be carefree and confident in their bikinis!” she signs off. To the beach, then? With your Monisha Jaising X Vogue India tote, of course!

Fashion's Night In 2016 takes place on Myntra.com from October 14-15.
