A little over two years after its formation, Telangana is in for a major revamp of its revenue administration. Beginning Dasara Day today, the number of districts in the state goes up to 31 from 10.

All the ministers have been asked to be present at the headquarters of the 21 newly formed districts.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao, who has been toying with the idea of creating more districts, will himself be present at Siddipet, which has been severed from Medak district.

The final list has been drawn up following a six-month long hectic exercise that witnessed several additions and deletions to the final list. The original plan was to create about 17 more districts but the government was forced to add four more -- Gadwal, Janagaon, Sircilla and Asifabad -- following strong agitations there.

Late Monday night the government released the formal announcement, the new set of district collectors, superintendents of police, joint collectors and other support staff to man the new offices.

The Chief Minister argues that creation of new districts will help the administration focus better on developmental activities in the interiors.

Following the creation of the new districts, the state will have 25 new revenue divisions, 125 new mandals, four new police commissionerates, 23 new police sub-divisions, 28 new police circles and 91 new police stations.

The new districts are Manchiryal, Nirmal, Kumuram Bheem (Asifabad), Jagityal, Peddapalli, Rajanna (Sircilla), Warangal Urban, Warangal Rural, Jayashankar (Bhoopalpalli), Janagaon, Mahaboobabad, Bhadradri (Kothagudem), Sangareddy, Siddipet, Vanaparthi, Nagarkurnool, Jogulamba (Gadwal), Suryapet, Yadadri, Vikarabad and Medchal.

New websites

As the administration gears up for the revamp, the IT department has created websites for all the new districts. "They currently have some basic information. We worked against a tight deadline to create these sites. We will add more features and information in the next few weeks," an official of the IT department said.
