Pune: The city received 27mm rainfall till 5.30pm on Monday, a fairly significant amount of rain for an October day.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) data since 2012 shows that Monday's rain was one of the highest the city has received in 24 hours in the month of October.
In October 2015, the highest amount of rain that Pune received in a day's time was 29.3mm.
During previous years, October's highest 24-hour rainfall had ranged from 8mm in 2014 to 37.7mm in 2012.

PCS Rao of the office of additional director general of meteorology, IMD Pune, told TOI that the increase in day temperature has caused convective weather conditions in Pune, causing intense rainfall in the city in a short span of time.
Mahesh Palawat, chief meteorologist from Skymet Weather Services, supported Rao's observation.
The city could expect more rainfall in some areas towards Tuesday afternoon or evening, after which the sky would remain partly cloudy till October 16, stated the Meteorological Department.

Meanwhile, an IMD forecast on Monday said that conditions are favourable for further withdrawal of Southwest Monsoon from most parts of northwest India and some parts of central and western India during next two to three days.
On October 8, the Southwest Monsoon further withdrew from remaining parts of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, most parts of Uttarakhand, some parts of west Uttar Pradesh and east Rajasthan and some more parts of west Rajasthan.
As per Skymet Weather Services, South Konkan and adjoining south central Maharashtra can expect some rain in the next two to three days.
However, dry conditions would prevail in Vidharba, Marathwada, north Konkan and north central Maharashtra in the next 24 to 48 hours.
"Withdrawl of monsoon from Maharashtra may still be 5 to 7 days away," said meteorologist Mahesh Palawat.
