HYDERABAD: A newborn boy was rescued from a garbage bin in a lane adjacent to Babukhan Mall, Somajiguda, on Monday.
Locals noticed the baby in the morning and alerted the Panjagutta police. The boy was shifted to a local private hospital for treatment initially and later to state-run Niloufer hospital.
Doctors at Niloufer said that the boy was a premature baby and had been abandoned on Saturday morning.
“The baby has been shifted to the neonatal intensive care unit for observation,“ said Dr Seetha Ram, resident medical officer at the hospital.
The baby was spotted in the dustbin, when a few dogs lurking around started to bark, said locals. “We received a call around 12 noon from locals in the area who heard cries of a baby. Our team reached there and rescued the baby. We have booked a case under section 317 of the IPC (exposure and abandonment of child under 12 years) against unknown persons,“ said S Mohan Kumar, inspector Panjagutta.
