Bazme Urdu Qatar recently organised an evening with renowned poet Mohammad Mumtaz Lahori. Mumtaz left Qatar in 2014, after 36 years of service in Kahramaa. He now lives in Lahore and visits Qatar twice a year. The author of 17 books launched his latest book Safar Asfal at the event.
The programme was presided over by Bazme Urdu Patron Rana Ayub. Mumtaz Rashid was the chief guest, while Sadaf magazine Administrative Editor Shahabuddin was the guest of honour.
The programme commenced with the recitation of the Holy Quran by Athar Azmi and the initial compering was conducted by the BUQ general secretary. The welcome note was presented by BU President Ijaz Haider. Two other books were also launched at this event, Duniya meri Nazar Main by Nasir Nakagava (Japan-based Pakistani journalist and editor of online newspaper, Urdu Net Japan) and the new edition of quarterly magazine Sadaf Patna, Bihar.
Mumtaz Rashid distributed his book Safar Asfal and the new edition of quarterly magazine Khayal o Fun to the guests and audience.
The second part of the event was the mushaira. BUQ Treasurer Raquim Azmi convened the mushaira, which included the session that featured recitation of poetry by Mumtaz Rashid, Fertash Syed, Shafiq Akhtar, Shaukat Ali Naz, Asif Shafi, Ahmad Ashfaq, Aziz Nabeel, Mansoor Azmi, Ijaz Haider, Qaiser Masood, Ashfaq Deshmukh, Tahir Jamil, Athar Azmi, Raquim Azmi, Anmol Ittefaq, Zareef Baloch, and Raza Hasan.
Shahbuddin said that literary activities in Qatar and literary works by individuals are regularly being published in Sadaf and also that the management of Sadaf will award the best literary work from this region.
Mumtaz Rashid thanked Bazme Urdu team for organising an evening in his honour."I am very glad and pleased to meet my friends and Bazm members. It is an honour for me that I am ex-chairman and president of Bazme Urdu Qatar and I worked with the team for the last 37 years and enjoyed being a part of a very old Urdu literary organisation in Qatar," he added.''
A large number of Urdu lovers attended the function. Prominent among those who attended the mushiara were Dr Tauseef Hashmi, Khalid Dad khan (President Anjuman Muhibban-e-Urdu Hind), Mr Ibrahim Khan (Founder Anjuman Muhibban-e-Urdu Hind), Shumsuddin, Sultan Azmi and Nuseer Ahmed Khateeb (Businessman).
