Leinster backs coach Girvan Dempsey has revealed Sean O’Brien is set for an imminent return with the province, while Fergus McFadden has suffered a setback with his quad injury.
O’Brien could feature in this weekend’s clash with Castres as he looks to recover from a hamstring problem.
Dempsey said: “Sean got through a lot of work last weekend and then during the week. He has a couple more markers to hit, he'll train fully today and tomorrow and we'll review him and see how he is.
“We'll make him available for selection if he gets through that work. It'll really just depend on how he is. You'd be confident that you'll see him on the field, if not this weekend, but definitely next weekend.
“He'll have to fight for his place to get back in there but it's a great place to be. He is chomping at the bit. He has been very influential while he has been off the field.”
"We felt we caused Munster a number of problems in attack. We felt we still left a lot of opportunities out there"
McFadden, meanwhile, is set to miss at least a month with his injury complaint.
“It's very unfortunate,” Dempsey said.
“He has just had a quad tear. It's unfortunate for Fergus, he picked that up and it was worse than we initially feared. He is going to be out for a number of weeks.”
Reflecting on the win over Munster at the Aviva Stadium last weekend, Dempsey said he was very pleased with how his side performed and the number of chances they carved out.
“Thankfully we came through the game with no injuries so everyone got through the game alright.
“We're very pleased with the performance. We felt we caused Munster a number of problems in attack. We felt we still left a lot of opportunities out there.
“We felt we created a lot of space and could have got a few more scores, but defensively I felt we were very strong. We put them under a lot of pressure and didn't really give them too many opportunities, which is pleasing.”
He did however pinpoint some areas his side need to improve on ahead of the Champions Cup opener with the French outfit at the RDS.
“The forwards have identified the line-out has to be a bit sharper. They have scouted Castres for the weekend and said there are a few areas they can be a bit better on. Backs, as I said already, we felt we created opportunities but didn't get the ball into the space to score a few more tries that I felt were out there.
“In attack, a couple of times we got a little bit narrow. We didn't cause Munster as many problems as we could. We ran into their strength and we know against Castres, a big French side, you can't be running into them like we did against Munster because you're not going to get any change out of that. They would be the key ones.”
Last weekend’s win over Munster was the first time that Robbie Henshaw, Garry Ringrose and Jonathan Sexton played together in the blue shirt, with Henshaw making his competitive debut for the province.
Dempsey was happy with how they combined.
“I thought they played well. They all played well off each other, they all attacked very well and look strong in defence. It was funny, they were nervous going into the game and Robbie in particular was nervous, it was obviously his first start for us and his first time getting back on the field.
“I thought they bounced off each other and looked sharp. It was pleasing from that point of view. I feel we're fortunate that we have a lot of options. We do have a lot of players on form at the moment, particularly in the backs.
“Noel Reid is going extremely well, gives us options, Joey Carberry, there is a lot of guys around, so we have a few selection headaches this weekend which is a good place to be.”
