Toure to Clichy: Which players in final year of contract should Man City keep?

Eight members of Manchester City's first-team squad are out of contract at the end of the 2016-17 season and have yet to be officially offered new deals. Under transfer rules, they will be able to talk freely to foreign clubs about their futures starting in January.

New City boss Pep Guardiola has been assessing his squad and will have already formed a strong opinion as to who he would like to stick around.

Here's a look at the players who are likely to leave and those who are likely to be offered new contracts:

Fernandinho

Guardiola has been hugely impressed by the Brazilian midfielder's form in City's superb start to the season and it is difficult to see how the 31-year-old won't be offered a new deal.

The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss recently said: "If a team had three Fernandinhos, they would be champions. We only have one and he is very important to us."

Fernandinho has featured in 11 of City's 12 games this season -- only missing the EFL Cup victory over Swansea City -- and has operated in a more defensive role, which Guardiola sees as pivotal.

His form has even seen him get a Brazil recall, with national team manager Tite also recognising his value and quality in a deeper-lying role.

Verdict: Deal

Yaya Toure

While Fernandinho seems to be maturing under Guardiola, everything has turned sour for Toure since the Spaniard's arrival at the Etihad.

The 33-year-old has played just 90 minutes this season -- in the virtually irrelevant Champions League playoff second leg with Steaua Bucharest -- and will not play again until Guardiola receives an apology for the comments made by his agent Dimitri Seluk.

But it's difficult to see how the Ivorian, who is ineligible to play in Europe after being left out of Guardiola's squad, would be picked anyway with his languid style seemingly at odds with the manager's hard-running, high-pressing game.

Toure has become a City legend for his importance over his six years with the club, but unless something drastically changes, he appears to have already played his last game.

Verdict: No deal

Aleksandar Kolarov

The Serb had his toughest week under Guardiola immediately before the international break -- making bad errors in the Champions League draw with Celtic and City's first Premier League loss at Tottenham Hotspur -- but there is no doubting that he has been a big success under the new regime. It has been a pleasant surprise to see him reinvented as a stylish centre-half.

Guardiola has praised his performances and hinted that he would be happy to offer him a new deal.

The 30-year-old says he remains relaxed over his future, but must be enjoying working for a manager who has helped him to produce some of the best performances of his career.

Verdict: Deal

Pablo Zabaleta

The 31-year-old has cult status among the fans for the passion and bravery that have encapsulated his eight seasons at the Etihad.

But it has caught up with him over the past 12 months, as the Argentine missed the Copa America with an ankle problem after an injury-hit season that saw him miss 37 of City's 59 matches.

He has featured in nine of City's games this season and has adapted well to a new system that often sees the full-backs required to tuck into midfield.

However, he struggled to cope with Danny Rose in the defeat to Tottenham, and with Guardiola expected to bring in new full-backs next summer -- with all of his current options in their 30s -- Zabaleta may be coming to the end of his time at City.

Verdict: No deal

Bacary Sagna

At 33, Sagna is in a similar predicament to Zabaleta with an uncertain future as City are linked with moves for new full-backs. On top of this, there is a potential challenge from inside the club with young Spanish right-back Pablo Maffeo making steady progress.

Sagna has played in only five of City's 12 games this season, but looked solid in impressive victories away to Steaua and Manchester United.

Guardiola won't want to make wholesale changes to his squad in the summer and the French defender still has plenty of quality to match his desire to win his first Premier League title.

Verdict: Deal

Gael Clichy

The fourth full-back entering the final year of his contract and in his 30s. Clichy has not had the same sort of rejuvenation as fellow left-back Kolarov, but he has quietly excelled and showed his progress by scoring just his second goal in 172 appearances for City at Swansea to round off a delightful passing move.

He also admitted in preseason that he has enjoyed working and learning from his new boss, describing Guardiola as "truly impressive" in preseason.

Clichy's homegrown status also makes him a major asset; City currently have 18 overseas players for just 17 places available in the Champions League.

Verdict: Deal

Jesus Navas

Navas has become something of a bit-part player under Guardiola -- starting just two Premier League games this season. It's a far cry from his 37 appearances last season, including the final five knockout games of City's run to the Champions League semifinal.

Competition for winger roles is stronger than it has been for some time, with Raheem Sterling and Noltio starting the season well and £37 million signing Leroy Sane chomping at the bit to make an impact after suffering an early hamstring injury.

Sevilla sporting director Monchi has already said that he expects Navas to rejoin his boyhood club at some point and he could be set for a return next summer.

Verdict: No deal

Willy Caballero

The Argentine keeper was a shock starter at the beginning of the season, but has reverted back to backup following the signing of Chile No. 1 Claudio Bravo.

Caballero has shown his commitment to Guardiola by embracing his demands to play as a sweeper-keeper, but it has come with mixed results. In his last appearance in the EFL Cup win over Swansea, he gave away a terrible pass that almost gifted Borja Baston a goal, but also played a key part in Clichy's opening tally.

The 35-year-old's situation is further complicated by the uncertainty around on-loan keeper Joe Hart's future, while young academy player Angus Gunn is highly regarded by Guardiola.

Verdict: No deal
