Emmanuel Macron, who resigned on August 30 after two years on the job, and his predecessor Arnaud Montebourg, who was sacked in 2014 for his fierce anti-German, anti-austerity statements, are both mounting presidential bids. Montebourg, who will run in the Socialist Party's primary next January, is already running; Macron has not yet declared but has launched his own political movement and keeps dropping hints that he's close to joining the race.
