ndonesian men’s doubles pair Berry Angriawan and Rian Agung Saputro won the SCG Thailand Open badminton tournament in Bangkok on Sunday.
The second-seed Indonesian pair outclassed Japanese pair Takuto Inoue and Yuki Kaneko in a rubber 17-21, 21-14, 21-18 in a one-hour battle at the Nimibutr Stadium, according to tournamentsoftware.com.
The Japanese dominated the first game, holding their opponents to just 17. Berry and Rian fought back, making seven consecutive points to help secure the second game. Gathering enough confidence, the Indonesian duo faced a tough defense from the Japanese before wrapping up the match.
From the other matches, hosts and first seeds Puttita Supajirakul and Sapsiree Taerattanachai won the women’s doubles, while Japanese Aya Ohori snatched the women’s singles. Malaysians Kian Meng Tan and Pei Jing Lai grabbed the mixed doubles.
Later in the day, Indonesian Sony Dwi Kuncoro was due to play Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk in the men’s singles final.
