PUNE: The
crime branch of the Pune police on Sunday arrested
Prashant Balasaheb Dhumal, a member of the Nilesh Ghaywal gang, and recovered a pistol and six rounds from him.
A team led by inspector Bramhanand Naikawadi, in-charge of the crime branch's anti-extortion cell, arrested Dhumal (30) from Parvati in Dattawadi following a tip-off.
Dhumal is a criminal on police record. He was externed for a period of two years from Pune district in 2014.
He was arrested when he was visiting Dattawadi to meet a person.
A country-made pistol of superior quality and six rounds were recovered from him.
During interrogation, Dhumal told police that he was in possession of the weapon for quiet some time.
"He, however, did not give any details about the source of firearms," police said.
He was arrested for committing an offence of violating externment order and possessing firearms under the
Maharashtra Police Act and
Arms Act, police said.
Dhumal was produced before a
magisterial court and remanded in magisterial custody.
He was, however, released on bail later.
