VARANASI: Minister of state for railway Manoj Sinha laid foundation stone of doubling and electrification of Aurihar-Jaunpur and Aurihar-Bhatni routes and DEMU shed at Aurihar railway station of the Varanasi division of North Eastern Railway (NER) on Sunday. In another function, he also inaugurated the newly created facilities at Saidpur Bhitari station on NER.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said Aurihar junction is connected with major railway stations and cities like Varanasi, Lucknow, Kanpur, Bareli, New Delhi, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai, Kolkata and Ahmedabad, it has been identified as model station and works are on to improve passenger amenities.

He stated that doubling and electrification of Barabanki-Gorakhpur-Bhatni-Chhapra route has been completed. In 2016-17 railway budget, a Rs 600 crore project for doubling and electrification of Aurihar-Jaunpur route and Rs 983 crore project for doubling and electrification of Aurihar-Bhatni route had been approved. Besides, the doubling and electrification of Allahabad-Chhapra route is also in progress. The operation of DEMU trains is being increased. A fund of Rs. 89 crore was earmarked in the rail budget for the construction of DEMU shed at Aurihar railway station.
