Karnal, October 9

Kalpana Chawla Government Medical College Hospital (KCGMCH) here would get 80 more doctors as per the list released by the Medical Education Department four days ago.

The interviews of the doctors were conducted in July and August. The appointment letters would soon be issued to them, said Dr Surinder Kashyap, Director KCGMCH.

He said the hospital would be shifted to new building by November 1.

Sources said the Karnal Civil Hospital was merged with the KCGMCH in December 2012. It had been facing a shortage of doctors and faculty members, including Anaesthetist, Gynaecologist, Neurosurgeon, since then.

Eight doctors and five 5 LMOs are reportedly required for smooth functioning of the Trauma Centre, ICU and labour room. Patients and management had been facing problems due to staff crunch. This had been causing resentment among residents.

Keeping in view the shortage of staff and expected visit by the Medical Council of India (MCI) in November for the approval to run the medical college, the department had conducted interviews for the posts of Senior Resident, Junior Resident, Professor, Associate Professor, Assistant Professor and others.

Six doctors of anatomy, five of bio-chemistry, two of radio diagnosis, three of ophthalmology, two of forensic medicine, two of pharmacology, one of pulmonary medicine, three of oto-rhino-laryngology, and six of pathology had been selected, said the Director.

Kashyap said four doctors of general medicine, six of obstetrics and gynaecology, one each of psychiatry and community medicine, five of anaesthesiology, five each of paediatrics and general surgery, one of dermatology venerology leprosy, three of physiology, four of orthopaedics and one of microbiology had been selected.

The department had selected seven casualty medical officer and two lady medical officers, he said.
