Antwerp Zoo welcomes baby tapir

10:44 09/10/2016

A Malaysian tapir was born in the Antwerp Zoo on Friday, and both the mother and her young are doing well, reported De Standaard. The birth is especially important because the tapir is an endangered species.

It is already the second little one for mother tapir Nakal, who last year gave birth to a female named Qadira. Nakal's second baby (pictured) arrived in the world with its trunk first. Its gender is still unknown.

If all goes well, visitors to the zoo will be able to see the animals just as soon as Nakal decides to emerge from the nursery with her baby.
