Deputy Premier Jackie Trad on Sunday unveiled a new housing project with 900 new house blocks at Carsedline as an example of the State Government's plan to sell or lease state-owned land to drive infrastructure.

Ms Trad announced a four-year project to transform the former Queensland University of Technology campus at Carseldine into a $35 million urban village near the Carseldine train station.

It is close to the future urban growth centre on Brisbane's northside at Fitzgibbon Chase, which had been earlier identified and developed by the two previous state governments.

"The Carseldine Urban Village site is a prime parcel of under-utilised state land in the Fitzgibbon Priority Development Area," Ms Trad said.

"This initiative will breathe new life into the Carseldine area while delivering jobs, including 70 during construction, to North Brisbane," she said.

The project includes around 18 hectares of protected vegetation and 3.5 hectares of open space.

Sandgate MP and Transport Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the project would eventually become home to 3500 residents close to Carseldine train station.

"The site, which is convenient to Carseldine train station, will expand on the model we established at Fitzgibbon and include some 900 homes for approximately 3,500 residents plus commercial and retail space," Mr Hinchliffe said.

The work is expected to take four years.

Queensland's Opposition has questioned the government land sales policy, telling reporters the Labor Government had broken its election promises not to "sell assets".

Community consultation for the proposed development will be undertaken later this year.
