NASHIK: Unaided school teachers took out a rally here on Saturday to press for their pending demands with the state.
The rally was in solidarity with the silent protest organised by unaided school teachers in Aurangabad on Tuesday, who were lathicharged by the police and cases for public demonstration.
The rally covered a stretch from Dongre Hostel ground along the Gangapur Road to district collectorate.
The teachers expressed their agitation against the government for the lathicharge on teachers in Auranbagad.
The Nashik district president of Maharashtra State unaided schools' action committee, Subhash Bhamre, said, "There are close to 4,000 unaided schools across the state. Nashik district alone has 230 unaided schools. Of all, 2,100 unaided schools are eligible to receive government grants. The state has already decided to give grants, but is yet to implement the decision. We want the state government to release funds for the unaided schools across Maharashtra."
He said, "Teachers were staging a silent demonstration in Aurangabad. The police have alleged teachers of stone-pelting and in order to control the situation, the police had lathi charged them. The place where these teachers were protesting was a concrete ground and there were no stones around. These teachers are still alleged for attacking the police. We demand the state government to withdraw cases against these teachers."
The memorandum of demands was also presented to the district administration on the occasion, seeking withdrawal of cases against teachers and releasing funds as grant to unaided schools before Diwali.
