BHOPAL: Chief medical and health officer of Sheopur has been made a scapegoat for deaths due to malnourishment in the district. CMHO Dr RP Saral has been removed from his post and posted in the same district hospital.
Last month, state government was hugely embarrassed after number of deaths and cases of malnourishment were reported from the backward district of the state, that borders Rajasthan.
Health department had issued orders of his removal on Friday night.
Health minister Rustam Singh had himself visited the district and found "pathetic conditions of Saharia tribals".
Later, he told TOI, "There were 10 to 15 deaths related to malnutrition over past 4 to 5 days."
After reported deaths of malnourished children in the district, two principal secretaries of the state government had visited half-a-dozen villages to take stock of the situation.
Earlier, principal secretary (woman and child welfare) JN Kansotia and principal secretary (health) Gauri Singh, accompanied by district collector Pannalal Solanki, had also visited villages of Karhal block from where deaths had been reported.
Meanwhile, Rustam Singh was not available for his comment on removal of CMHO.
