Ten monkeys electrocuted in Mainpuri

A 72-year-old woman has been booked for the “death” of ten monkeys, who were electrocuted by a makeshift electric fence around her house in Krishnanagar area of Kishni Town, Mainpuri, on Friday night.

AGRA: A 72-year-old woman has been booked for the “death” of ten monkeys, who were electrocuted by a makeshift electric fence around her house in Krishnanagar area of Kishni Town, Mainpuri, on Friday night.
According to police, Ram Beti, had erected a makeshift electric fence, made from iron barbed wires, connected to a power outlet, around her property to protect her trees from wild animal and monkeys.
Last night at about 10 PM, a monkey, who tried to cross the fence, was electrocuted and died on the spot.
When some other monkeys tried to retrieve his body, they too got electrocuted and died. Talking to TOI, station officer, Kishni, AR Gautam said a total of 10 monkeys were electrocuted.
Gautam said Ram Beti has been booked under Section 429 of the IPC (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle, etc) and had been arrested. Gautam admitted that residents of the area had been facing lots of problems to growth of the simian population and many had put up meshes or grills around their houses.
According to information, Ram Beti has two sons and a daughter, who do not stay with her. While her younger son serves in the Armed forces, the elder one is a Professor in Noida and her daughter is married to an IAS officer.
