Montblanc's StarWalker collection of pens includes fountain pens, ballpoints, fineliners, rollerball pens and screenwriters, each with a fresh look and the unmistakable Montblanc imprimatur. The newest member of the StarWalker family, the Urban Spirit, derives its inspiration from modern urban trailblazers, as well as a Montblanc accessory collection of the same name.

Urban Spirit accessories are designed for the city dweller looking for high functionality along with a classic, appealingly casual, look. Most of the items include Montblanc’s Shield technology designed to increase protection against the unauthorized reading or copying of personal data. This is a nice touch—particularly when in high-density locations, like subways and commuter trains.

The collection currently includes a backpack, double gusset briefcase, document case, duffle bag and others, each with multiple compartments for cellphone, laptop, writing instruments and more. There’s also a wallet made of full-grain cowhide, with two front pockets, six pockets for credit cards, two compartments for cash and two additional pockets. The collection also comprises a business card holder, pen case and coin case. Each features the well-known Montblanc snowcap somewhere on its exterior, and each is currently offered in a rich black color, reminiscent of Montblanc’s famed Meisterstuck writing instruments.

The new StarWalker Urban Spirit pen's cap and barrel are crafted in black resin, and polished platinum fittings are used—for the first time in the StarWalker collection—as a subtle and elegant contrast. In addition, a simple black lacquered stripe is evident on the pen’s clip, adding another touch of modernity and high style. The name “Montblanc” is on the clip ring in black lacquer, and this reflects the metal detailing on its namesake accessory collection. The cap crown is a futuristic-looking dome within which the iconic Montblanc snowcap takes center stage. The Urban Spirit comprises a fountain pen with a 14-karat gold nib stamped “AU 585”, a fineliner and a ballpoint pen. Each is available exclusively at Montblanc boutiques starting this month.

On another note, this year Montblanc celebrates 110 years. Officially founded in 1906 as a writing instrument manufacture in Hamburg, the company was named for Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps, symbolically representing the pinnacle of the company’s future success. Today, Montblanc’s range of products, in addition to a thriving writing instruments business, has grown to include watches, leather goods, eyewear, fragrance and more. Most recently, the brand introduced Augmented Paper, which allows written notes and sketches to be transferred from paper to a mobile device with the press of a button. The system includes an electronic digitizer, a StarWalker writing instrument, a notebook with lined paper, a USB cable to charge the device, three ballpoint refills and tweezers to exchange the refills—all beautifully contained within an Italian leather envelope-style organizer.

Augmented Paper offers handwriting recognition in 12 languages, including English, German, Russian, Spanish, Italian and Chinese so that handwritten notes may be transferred to a mobile device and then smoothly translated into digital text. Once in digital form, the text may be edited, searched, shared and organized in one place.
