Felipe Massa and Kevin Magnussen have both been handed reprimands for their incidents during qualifying for Sunday's Japanese Grand Prix.

The Williams and Renault drivers were summoned to see the stewards following qualifying after allegedly driving too slowly when returning to the pits. Magnussen's incident occurred at the end of Q1, while Massa's was during his in-lap at the end of Q2 after he was eliminated.

The FIA states that a driver must not exceed a maximum time between the safety car line after the pit exit and the safety car line before the pit entry on their in-lap to ensure that drivers are not driving too slowly when not on a flying effort.

"As no driver was impeded, the Stewards consider a reprimand to be sufficient in this case," the stewards said in a statement.

Massa qualified 12th, one position behind Williams teammate Valtteri Bottas, while Renault's Magnussen finished 18th after being knocked out of qualifying in Q1.

Explaining the incident, Magnussen said: "You have a maximum time you can take to do one lap and I was just a little bit over that. You do [have delta] but we forgot to activate it.

"We usually have reminders and stuff but somehow we didn't do it. It's not a big mistake."
