Mumbai: 12-yr-old girl dies in tribal boarding school

Savra said it might not be linked to undernourishment. “A report is being sought from the local administration too,” said Savra. Incidentally, 15-year-old Kamal Chaudhary from the same school had to be hospitalised in Nashik due to serious illness.

Savra said a recent survey by his department found 6,034 children below six years malnourished in the district. Of these, 1,319 were severely malnourished, while 4,715 were moderately malnourished, he added. The government has roped in NGOs and formed a task force, and along with public health department was trying to overcome the problem.

Congress leader Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Assembly, said, “The minister is responsible for the child’s death.”
