AHMEDABAD: A city sessions court on Friday framed charges against Porbandar’s Umarmiya Bukhari alias Mammumiya Panjumiya, who was closely associated with D gang, in connection with an arms case registered in Dariapur police station in 1993.
Mammumiya will now face a trial for criminal conspiracy and Arms Act. Additional sessions judge PB Singh earlier rejected Mammumiya’s discharge plea on the ground that police investigation showed him a kingpin in various offences, particularly the smuggling of arms and ammunitions in the early 1990s.
Dariapur police nabbed Salim Mamlatdar in a van in 1993 with one AK-47 rifle, country-made guns and cartridges along with silver plates.
Various persons including Abdul Wahab Baloch were arrested in this case. However, except four, all others were discharged.
After Mammumiya’ deportation in 2005, he was implicated in several cases. In all cases, he has been accused of supplying arms and hatching conspiracy to destabilize the nation by spreading terrorism. Of them, he has been acquitted by TADA courts in connection with Portabandar as well as Valsad arms landing cases. He has been discharged in two cases registered by Ahmedabad police including the one registered with the city crime branch. He has been acquitted in the Radhika Gymkhana massacre case lodged in Ahmedabad.
