Eat Bulaga funnyman Paolo Ballesteros eyes more dramatic roles after 'Die Beautiful'

Known for his comedic characters, Paolo Ballesteros on Friday said he's open to take on more serious roles after his turn as a transgender woman in the independent film "Die Beautiful."

Describing his role in the film as "somewhat serious," Paolo said that he likes being challenged.

"Oo naman, siyempre gusto ko yung challenging," the 33-year-old actor said after the press conference of his latest film, "Bakit Lahat ng Gwapo May Boyfriend."

Paolo, hailed as the Make Up Transformation King and known for his role as Lola Tidora in Eat Bulaga's Kalyeserye, added that he's hoping "Die Beautiful" is appreciated by viewers.

He said that the film has been in the making for two years now.

"Die Beautiful," directed by Jun Robles Lana, will compete in this year's Tokyo Film Festival, having been selected for the Main Competition category in the event.

Paolo said he's hoping for an award, not for himself but for the film and the entire staff.

"Kung nahirapan ako, mas nahirapan sila, yung mga staff namin," Paolo said.

"If ever na nageexpect ako ng award, it's for everyone, bonus na lang yung akin," he added.

The staff and actors of "Die Beautiful" will be flying to Tokyo on October 24.

The festival will run from October 25 to November 3. —JST, GMA News
