2 held for Vatva woman's killing

Killer Had Spilled The Beans When Drunk
2 held for Vatva woman's killing
AHMEDABAD: It was liquor that made a cautious criminal let out the secret that one and a half years ago, he had murdered Nisha Rangvani, 42, at her residence. The accused, Rohit Patel, was so meticulous in covering his tracks that he and his accomplice refrained from selling off the jewellery they had robbed from the body of Rangvani. When crime branch sleuths arrested Patel and his accomplice, Prakash Tiwari, they still had Rangvani's jewellery with them.

While probing the recent killing of 72-year-old Nirmala Shah, who'd led a solitary life at BOI society in Navrangpura, crime branch sleuths stumbled upon the lead to Rangvani's murder. A man tipped them off that Rohit Patel of Lambha had once, under the influence of liquor, talked about the murder of a woman in Vatva.
"That tip was enough for us. We went through undetected cases registered at Vatva police station, and found the murder of Rangvani matching the incident described," said DCP, crime, Deepan Bhadran. "The accused were arrested immediately," he added. Inspector R R Sarvaiya of crime branch said Rangvani's husband used to go out for work and she usually stayed at home alone. "Rangvani also ran a money-lending business from home" Sarvaiya added.
Cops learned that one Priyanka Patel, who lived in the same society as Rangvani did, had held grudges against her and often the two had had quarrels.
"Looking for an opportunity to settle scores, Priyanka had told Patel, who used to frequent her house, that they would get a lot of money if they rob Rangvani," said Sarvaiya.
