Sharmistha Mukherjee denies rumours of shift to AAP after CM meet

Delhi Congress chief spokesperson Sharmistha Mukherjee’s recent meeting with CM Arvid Kejriwal has given rise to the speculation in the political circles that she might be exploring options whether to join the AAP in the near future. While Ms Mukherjee denied this outright, she confirmed that she had a personal meeting with the CM and his family. Soon after reports suggested that Ms Mukherjee had gone to meet Mr Kejriwal, social media was abuzz with speculations of her joining the newbie party.

The Congress spokesperson, who is incidentally the daughter of President Pranab Mukherjee, later twee-ted: “Not just idle, but evil speculation. I’m a proud Congress by birth, spirit and deeds. Wud rather lea-ve politics than leave INC.”

It is reliably learnt that Mr Kejriwal’s wife had invited Ms Mukherjee and the daughter of a veteran BJP leader over tea. The other invitee could not make it as she had sprained her foot. So, Ms Mukherjee went alone to see the CM and his family.
