E200 000 NEEDED TO LIFT OLD MUTUAL CHOIR CHAMPS CUP
MBABANE – The road to the Old Mutual Choral Music Festival finals is a bit tough for the country’s representatives as they need at least E200 000 for the finals.
His Majesty’s Correctional Services will represent the country in the large section category, while the Royal Swazi Spa Choir will compete in the standard section category.
His Majesty’s Correctional Services became the champions during the festival’s eliminations held three weeks ago at Esibayeni Lodge, while Royal Swazi Spa won the standard section.
Both choirs have started preparing for the finals but the only challenge is funds. The Swaziland National Choral Music Association (SNCMA) has started to strategise as a means of helping the choirs raise the money needed. Actually each choir needs at least E100 000 for the preparations of the finals to be held in December.
The money will cater for transport, rehearsals, food, accommodation, the pianists and the coach.
The SNCMA also plans to engage the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture (SNCAC) as they believe they can be of great assistance. Bheki Maziya, SNCMA Public Relations Officer (PRO), said if the choirs were able to get the required amount of money, they would definitely perform well in the finals.
“The whole intention is to see the local choirs winning. I am definitely sure that if we prepare well, we will definitely win,” he said.
He noted that choirs in South Africa feared the locals because they were known to be the best singers.
