FRI director concerned over deforestation

DEHRADUN: Forest Research of India (FRI) Director Dr Savita has expressed concern over the causes behind deforestation and degradation of forests in the country.

Forest Research of India (FRI) Director Dr Savita has expressed concern over the causes behind deforestation and degradation of forests in the country.

She was inaugurating a two-day training workshop for officers of the Indian Forest Services on “Forest Transition in India and Emerging issues in Indian Forestry” at the FRI today.

She emphasised the importance of forest policy and various acts for sustainable management of forests. She discussed about the overview of forest transition followed by changes in the forestry sector in India and other parts of the world.

Earlier, the FRI’s Resource Survey Management Division Head Dr Neelu Gera said the workshop being held under the ages of the Union Ministry of Environment and Climate change would dwelt at length on varied aspects of forest transition and contemporary issues in the Indian Forestry sector and their implications.

All head of divisions of FRI and Senior Scientists were present on the occasion.
