Panipat, October 6
A team of the Health Department today unearthed a major sex-determination racket being run in Muradnagar town of Uttar Pradesh. The team nabbed a female tout and a quack and sealed an unregistered ultrasound centre with the help of the UP Police. Dr Inderjeet Singh Dhankar, Civil Surgeon, got a tip-off that a woman namely Seema, a resident of Ramesh Nagar in the city, was involved in a sex-determination racket.
A decoy was sent to Seema who took the decoy patient in a car to Muradnagar this morning. A team led by Dr Sudhir Batra, Deputy CMO, along with medical officers followed them in separate vehicles. She took the decoy patient to a clinic which was being run by an unregistered and unqualified ultrasonologist Mohammad Asif. “Asif and Seema have been booked under the PCPNDT Act,” he maintained. — TNS
