People are now willing to beautify their nails and are seen experimenting with their shapes, nail-paints and extensions. Veteran beauty expert and founder-director of ALPS, Bharti Taneja shares some must-try tips to ‘nail it’.

Nails with a twist: These days, French nails in funky colors are seen making waves; besides the latest soak-off nail paints, last for no less than 20 days. So, if you are a victim of chipped nails, this one’s worth a try. Also, if you are bored of the usual texture of your nail-dos – go wild with velvet nailpaints and nailpaints with foils – with a tendency to change its sheen. You can also choose specific colours for various occasions – like a pink for Valentines’ or shimmery gold shade for Diwali, or a ravishing red for your best friend’s wedding. A perfect nail paint would make sure you rock-it in every avatar of you.

Nail art: A nail- do where two or more nail paints are mixed makes way for a super nail art. This is often done along with few other nail accessories that are used to enhance the look of your fingers. There are a plenty of options to create a nail art – which can be done by yourself too. These can be accordingly customised depending upon a person’s choice and mood.

Nail extensions: Nail extensions are for those who complain of brittle, hence short nails. But if you yearn for longer looking nails, you can go for this trend. Also, there is no dearth of occasions, where we look charming from head-to-toe and suddenly find one of your nails broken.

In such situations, only extensions can come to our rescue and can be good to go. For this special acrylic powder and liquids are used to paste the natural looking long nails on the original nails. These extensions are beautiful and last longer. They grow along your nails and stay for more than four months. And, while they grow, a little filling can be done at the nail bed so that they do not look artificial at all.

Nail piercing: If you still find your nails to not complement your expensive studded costume, you still have a lot more to explore in the world of nails. Go for nail piercing by getting cute nail accessories like butterflies, bows, lips, stones, pearls and other studs pierced over your nail bed.

The procedure which is absolutely painless and harmless is sure to compliment your special outfits. Also, if you would like to be on a little daring side always, you can opt for slightly long chains and accessories – which keep hanging beyond your nails to add extra zing to your personality.

3D nail art: Better known as a prominent sequel to ‘nail art’, this style is raging too amongst the youth, nowadays. Done using different coloured swaroskis, bows, pearls, stones and chains this is a shorter form of nail piercing — where these pretty frills attached on your nails lasts for a specified time period only. Moreover, a lot of asymmetrical studs are often used to garnish the overall look of our nails in 3D nail-art – while some nails are left blank to add a dash of unevenness to it.

You can go all wild while choosing the hues for nail-paints and accessories or also keep it a bit simple – if the occasion demands it to be so. But remember to make sure that you don’t go overboard with all the bling together – so, if you chose your colour to be an electric blue – you may keep the accessories bright, but in contrast with the shade, that is, a bit softer one. Similarly, you can do vice versa, for creating your another 3D art.

Also, stay away from heavy finger/wrist accessories if you want your nails to do all the talking; going over the top with accessories would end up looking nothing – but dingy.

While bound to enhance your personality, no matter how dull your dress shall be, these kind of nails demand extreme care in order to last longer.

So, be it a simple nail paint applied onto your fingers or glistening pair of clipping attached over the nails, these art forms are to be dealt with utmost care. So, avoid washing clothes, utensils or any other actions that require your hands to be in water for hours.

Keep the hands moisturised all day long and go for regular maintenance of your nails.
