BofAML is teaming up with the Stemettes organisation to hold a weekend of coding and creativity in its London office, highlighting the importance of STEM.
Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BofAML) will sponsor the weekend-long event for girls and young women (ages 8–22) to meet and learn from women already working in STEM professions.
A group of technologists from around the UK will head to London to share tips, knowledge and coding skills with the young participants.
During the event, the girls will code before presenting their work to the other participants; the idea being to familiarise themselves with code, to share ideas and to learn from each other.
This wouldn’t be the first time BofAML has teamed up with the Stemettes organisation to host one of its events. Last November, they held events in both Dublin and London, the latter of which saw 40 young women attend.
Combining food with coding
Anne-Marie Imafidon, head of the Stemettes organisation, said: “We’re excited to be back collaborating with BofAML for the fourth year running, and highlighting the opportunities in STEM.
“This year, we’re continuing the technical theme and combining our love of food with coding. The event sold out so quickly; there’s such an appetite among young women all over the country for opportunities like this, pun intended.”
BofAML’s COO of global markets operations, Andrew McKibben, added: “We hope that through collaborative efforts such as this, we can help to change perceptions of what it is like to work in STEM, and inspire more young women to consider a career in the sector.”
Elsewhere in the company, BofAML announced last July that it was to invest $40m in training up 100,000 youths and young adults to prepare them for modern jobs.
