LAHORE: Qaumi Watan Party member Barrister Zafarullah Khan on Monday filed a contempt of court petition before the Supreme Court of Pakistan against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan for holding public gathering at Adda Plot, near the residence of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif at Raiwind, and making speech on sub judice matters like Panama leaks. He moved this petition before the Lahore registry of the apex court. Petitioner stated that Imran Khan emphasised over Panama leaks issue in his speech. He stated that the Panama leaks was a sub-judice matter, as it was already pending before the Supreme Court. He stated that a full bench had already been constituted for hearing of petitions on Panama leaks, adding that Imran Khan could not talk in a public meeting about a sub-judice issue. He stated that taking up the issue of Panama leaks at Adda Plot in Raiwind was tantamount to contempt of court, and requested the court to initiate contempt proceedings against the PTI chief. Sanaullah’s disqualification: LHC Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah on Monday asked the petitioner, Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) member, to approach the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for disqualification of Punjab Law Minister Rana Sanaullah. The chief justice observed that ECP was the appropriate forum in this matter, therefore the petitioner should avail that remedy first. With these directions, the chief justice disposed of PAT leader Abdul Qayyum’s petition, but directed the ECP to decide the matter in accordance with law after giving proper opportunity of hearing to the petitioner. The petitioner counsel had said that Rana Sanaullah was nominated in the murder case of 14 PAT workers during the infamous Model Town fiasco. He submitted that being on the seat of law minister, he would not influence transparent investigation, and therefore should be removed from this seat so that impartial trial could be conducted in order to provide justice to PAT workers. He claimed that according to Article 62 and 63 of the Constitution, Rana Sanaullah was no more a sagacious, righteous and non-profligate, honest and amen, and therefore should be disqualified from his seat in the Punjab Assembly. Ban on Indian films: LHC Justice Shahid Karim on Monday again issued notice to federal government and the Central Board of Film Censors on a petition seeking complete ban on exhibition of Indian movies in Pakistan. The judge sought replies from the federal government and the censor board till October 25 on petition of stage actor Iftikhar Thakur. Petitioner counsel Ishtiaq Chaudhry said that India was not inclined to spare the innocent Kashmiris who were struggling for independence. He said that exhibition of Indian films in Pakistan was tantamount to rubbing salt onto the wounds of Kashmiri citizens. He said that the exhibition/promotion of Indian films in Pakistan was in conflict with Article 2, 28, 31 and 37 of the Constitution. He requested the court to put a complete ban on the exhibition of Indian movies in Pakistan.
