PITHORAGARH: The three-day International Yoga festival began at Jageshwar Dham in Almora district on Wednesday.

The three-day International Yoga festival began at Jageshwar Dham in Almora district on Wednesday.

The Uttarakhand Paryatan Vikas Nigam (UTDC) in association with the Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN) is organising the festival. Uttarakhand Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal inaugurated it.

Over 50 foreign yoga disciples of Swami Chidanand Muni, head of Parmarth Niketan at Rishikesh, besides locals, are taking part in the festival. Chief Minister Harish Rawat will attend the concluding fuction on October 7.

“The beginning of the yoga festival at Jageshwar Dham is a welcome step to boost tourism in the state. This ancient place of Kumaon will get a boost in the region in the coming days,” Kunjwal said.

According to KMVN sources, the three-day festival will include lectures on yoga science by renowned scholars, besides a session of dhyan yoga and daily aarti. “Local people can attend the festival free of cost for all three days,” says TS Martolia, general manager, KMVN.

Besides Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal, Tourism Minister Dinesh Dhania, Commissioner of Kumaon, Tourism Secretary, Deputy Director (Tourism) Vivek Chauhan and district and regional-level officials were present on the occasion.
