MUMBAI: The special MCOCA court on Wednesday convicted three Ravi Pujari gang members for killing two employees of Sahana Builders in Andheri in 2011. Their quantum of punishment will be announced on Thursday. The court convicted Raju Jadhav, Yogesh Waghmare and Riyaz Shaikh, but acquitted two others—Mohsin Khan and Khajappa Nagore—for lack of direct evidence.
In March 2011, two gunmen barged into a construction site in D N Nagar and fired discriminately at site supervisor Yogesh Khule and site engineer Samrat Devarsia.
Both died on the spot.
During investigation, it transpired that Pujari had orchestrated the attack after builder Sudhakar Shetty refused to give in to his extortion demands and arrested the five men. While Waghmare and Jadhav were the shooters, Shaikh did a reccee of the place. Khan allegedly ferried them to the construction site and Nagore accompained them.
The probe carried under the supervision of ACP Arvind Mahabadi, and inspectors Ramesh Mahale and Santosh Bagwe also revealed that Waghmare and Jadhav had opened fire on a Navi Mumbai builder a few days prior to the Andheri shooting.
