A gripping hour-long monologue!

A gripping hour-long monologue!
Shakkar ke Paanch Daane, written by Manav Kaul and directed by Saurab Gharipurkar was staged on Sunday evening.
The curtains raised on the show as Siddhesh Dharmadhikari took the stage as Raajkumar for the monologue, which traces his uneventful life in an unimportant village.
Ranting on about how he was just “theek” in every aspect of his life, sharing moving anecdotes of his childhood, youth and adult life and narrating how his mediocrity affected people around him, Siddhesh delivered the hour-long monologue with aplomb.
In fact, he managed to keep the audience’s attention on him throughout. As Siddhesh bowed to the crowd, the evening ended with a standing ovation.
R.I.P Theatre Manners
There are plays where it’s okay to break into guffaws and claps and hoots right through the staging. And then there are plays like this one, that require everyone to sit still in silence, so that everyone else in the audience can hear, and appreciate, everything that’s being said on stage. Sadly this simple logic is beyond some of us. Throughout the staging of the monologue, there were folks who kept dragging their chairs and fidgeting noisily, much to the annoyance of the rest of the guests. Sigh, guys! Can we brush up on some theatre manners, please?
