The Pink Panther jewel gang, one of the largest and most successful diamond thieves in the world with over 370 heists worth $500 million, might be the mastermind behind Kim Kardashian's horrifying Paris theft.

The group, who disguised as French policemen, wrapped her mouth in tape and threw her at the bathtub before sneaking away her precious jewelries worth over $10 million.

The French police made no arrest yet but the media speculated that the Pink Panthers initiated the heist. The group is a network of jewel thieves from Balkan countries that targets the most valuable gems on the planet.

In a report published by TIME, the group has netted about $372 million worth of gems in about 380 heists since 1999, in countries across Europe, and in Dubai, Japan and elsewhere, according to Interpol database.

Interestingly, this is not the first time such hi-profile thefts happened in Paris. Expensive gems from Harry Winston store on Avenue Montaigne was robbed twice in 2007 and 2008, Extraordinary Diamonds was snatched from Carlton International Hotel in Cannes by a single gunman in broad daylight, a $31 million diamond necklace also known as the Comtesse de Vendôme was jacked from a Tokyo jeweler. However, all these cases remain as a mystery even today.

According to RollingStone, Interpol recently shut its 9-year-old Project Pink Panthers, believing the gang to be weakened and splintered and no longer posing a threat to the glitterati. They are also trying to enable investigators from different countries to make unnoticed links between the crimes.

Kim's regular social media updates on her daily schedule are said to have helped the gang in knowing her whereabouts easily. Few gossip columns are speculating the theft as "inside job."

The one who has pulled the robbery, whether it is the infamous Pink Panther or not, the story is slowly becoming a folkloric legend.
