IIM-A proposes expanding capacity in PGP, PGPX courses

AHMEDABAD: The Indian Institute of ManagementAhmedabad (IIM-A) has sent a proposal to HRD ministry seeking to add another section to its PGPX (Post Graduate Programme for Executives). Sources in the institute said it will double the intake capacity of students in the course and take it to 180 from the existing 90.
The institute has also proposed increasing student intake in Post Graduate Programmes (PGP) and to launch an ePGP course.
The proposal was given to HRD minister Prakash Javadekar, in the recently conducted IIM directors' meeting in Shillong. The IIM-A has also sought capital from the ministry to start the new course.
“We have proposed increasing the capacity of both our PGPX and PGP programmes,“ said Ashish Nanda, director, IIM-A.
“Increasing capacity requires capital investment. We are open to all possibilities, inclu ding financial support by the government, to fund the expansion,“ Nanda said.
“We will take care of operational expenses. We believe investment in increasing capacity of existing IIMs is highly cost-efficient for the nation,“ he added.
It needs mention that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has proposed IIMs at Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Bodh Gaya (Bihar), Sirmaur (Himachal Pradesh), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Sambalpur (Odisha) and Amritsar (Punjab).
IIM-A has asked for government funding, soft loan or other instruments, but the proposal has not yet received sanction from HRD minsitry, said sources.
Sources added that IIM-A has given a detailed proposal on how student intake can be increased, and sought capital expenditure for new buildings required to realize the course expansion.
